Privacy
CostsNYC is a public comment and civic education project for New Yorkers. This page summarizes what we collect, how we use it, and what to expect before you submit.
What we collect
- Email addresses for people who subscribe to updates.
- ZIP code and any optional demographic responses a user chooses to include in the comment tool.
- Optional name and email if a user wants city follow-up about a submitted comment.
- Submitted comment text and related workflow details needed to operate the project and support delivery.
- Basic technical request metadata used for spam prevention, rate limiting, and service reliability.
How we use it
- To operate the comment tool and deliver submitted comments through the project’s submission process.
- To understand participation patterns and improve the project.
- To send explainers, deadline reminders, and project updates to subscribers.
- To protect the site and forms from abuse.
What to expect when you submit
- ZIP code is the only required demographic field in the comment tool.
- Other demographic questions are optional and mirror the city’s own public comment fields.
- Contact information for city follow-up is optional.
- Submitted comments are received by CostsNYC first and delivered to the city in regular batches during the day.
- CostsNYC keeps submitted comments and related responses to operate the project, support delivery, and understand common themes in what New Yorkers are saying.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not use subscriber information for unrelated marketing.
- We do not present CostsNYC as a law firm or as the City itself.
Questions can be directed to the CostsNYC team once the public contact channel is live.
